Herbivore animals are adapted to eat plants and vegetation, thus forming an important link in the food chain. These animals outnumber the carnivores and require large areas of scrub forests, with abundant food supply and dwelling. As these animals' habitat reduces owing to deforestation and rampant destruction of nature, their very existence is under threat.
'Garsar' yellow Varanasi silk brocade sari features a tree climbing upwards with its wispy branches sprouting leaves and a host herbivore Mammalia including the Asiatic Elephant, Chinkara, Indian One Horned Rhino, Indian Wild Buffalo, Spotted Deer, Rabbit and the domesticated Cow and Camel as a recurring motif.
Blouse worn by the model is not included.
Natural variations in colours and weave are part of the textile, as it is handwoven.
